LP Planning Consultants successfully obtained Part Q Prior Notification for Change of Use from agriculture to dwelling for a barn at Winkworth Farm, Lea, nr Malmesbury, Wiltshire. The clients who operate an organic beef farm sought the advice of LP Planning consultants on how to obtain permission to convert the barn to a dwelling for their retirement. LP Planning worked closely with the clients and a bath based architects, to prepare and submit a sympathetic conversion scheme for a single storey, three-bedroom dwelling with a total internal floor area of 194 sq metres.
The barn has a steel framed structure which is clad with timber boarding at high level and a mixture of timber sleeper and concrete block at low level. The roof is covered with cemetitious roofing sheets which are in good condition. The building has galvanised steel purlins supporting the roof sheets. The floor is a cast slab of concrete.
This is an example of how a relatively modern agricultural barn can be successfully converted into a dwelling. Prior Approval was granted by Wiltshire Council.
